There are several buildings in the village with either pleasing looks or interesting histories and this page lists a selection. It is by no means exhaustive and another author might choose a different collection.
This is Tarvin Hall. It was used in the 19th century as a boarding school for boys and more recently as an old people's home but it is in private hands at present. |
This is also Tarvin Hall but viewed from the top of the church tower. The other large building in the foreground is the Methodist Church. |

This is Rode House which was the home of Dr Moreton the local doctor and influential member of society. His collection of artefacts found in Tarvin from the days of the Civil War is still available to see in St Andrew's Church. |
This is the old Methodist Church, now a private house

|
These two houses are "The Flaggs" and "Hamilton House". They were built in 1756 to replace buildings destroyed by the fire of 1752 which destroyed a large part of the village.
|
This is an old picture of Church Cottages and Church House. It has been suggested that Church House was the vicarage but this is only speculation. |
This is a more recent picture. The building was restored in 1991. |
This is the hearse house. The Church owned a hearse which could be loaned out for funerals and the small building in this picture was where it was housed. Parishioners paid a shilling to cover the cost of cleaning but outsiders paid ten shillings for the hire.
Behind the hearse house is the Old Grammar School which is now the Parish Rooms.
|
This is a view of the former vicarage which was built around 1780 but it was replaced with a more modern one built around 1990. The picture was taken from the top of the Church tower in 1992 |

This is another view of the Old Vicarage which was also taken from the top of the Church tower but in 1996 when we had snow. The road which can be seen is Church Street but it becomes Tarporley Road about where the second curve is. |
